The International Association of Jewish Vocational Services (formerly the Jewish Occupational Service) is a nonprofit network of 28 national and international human service agencies in major metropolitan areas in the United States, Canada, and Israel. Member agencies provide a vast array of services that have a direct effect on the lives of hundreds of thousands of people each year: career management, skills training, rehabilitation programs, health services, and home and community-based services. Their records include a constitution and bylaws, minutes, reports, conference programs, project files, and photographs documenting regular meetings, coordination of programs and services with agencies, and work with soviet emigres and the aged. Papers consist of correspondence and newsletters from the period of Sachs' chaplaincy in Okinawa between 1945 and 1947; correspondence from his years in Palestine/Israel between 1947 and 1949, when he served in the Haganah; and notes and writings from his participation in a civil rights march in Birmingham, Alabama during the 1960s. The bulk of the material covers the years 1945-1949. Inventory available.
